Even when you try to compose music that is 100% electronic, you may come to a point when you want your productions to sound a bit more “natural”. Of course, this can be achieved with using the right instruments. If you’re experienced (and brave) enough, you could bring live instruments into the mix; after all electronic music with a live guitar or piano or even an orchestra is nothing unheard of.
However, if you want to try something easier first or just don’t want to leave the comfort of your virtual setup, then you could try some very realistic sounding plugins first. If you’re a guitar lover, then you should definitely have a look at what Guitarist has to offer.
To better set the mood of playing a virtual guitar, the plugin offers a stylish retro look. The main element (the guitar neck) is located in the bottom of the window, where you can tune each of your strings, manually adjust strum or speed and transpose or shift a pattern.
First you’ll probably want to experiment with different presets that can give you a better idea about various playing styles and allow you to decide what would work in your compositions and what wouldn’t. The presets themselves are divided into four categories: Global, Sound, Pattern and Chord, each controlling different aspects of how the guitar is played.
While the actual guitar playing is done through step sequencing, you can still improvise and make changes using the program’s various tools. For example, the Action section allows sound damping, dead notes, slow downs and even full stops, all of which can be learned by the plugin. In the Animation tab, you can move the “fingers” up and down on the fretboard while the guitar is playing.
Of course, no electric guitar plugin would be complete without some effects; Guitarist Crack offers two effect-units, plus a Wah-Wah pedal that you can use to enhance your composition. No matter what style you prefer (jazz, blues, metal, even pop) Guitarist Crack can make the chords sound natural. So if you need a good electric guitar for your mix, then this is may be the plugin you’re looking for.
