PDF Encrypt COM/SDK is a tool aimed at helping developers build programs that provide their users with PDF encryption capabilities.
The utility has been designed with all of the features and capabilities that the PDF Encrypt application comes with, but is meant for development purposes, and can prove of little help for regular users.
Developers, however, should find it easy to implement the aforementioned PDF encryption capabilities inside their software, and can also use it with ASP/PHP/JSP projects. To ensure wide application support, the tool has been designed in a manner that allows devs to take advantage of it regardless of whether they build apps in VB, VC, CB, Delphi, or ASP.
With the help of this tool, PDF files can be encrypted by using either the Adobe Standard 40-bit or the Adobe Advanced 128-bit Encryption methods. Furthermore, it features AES encryption capabilities, for increased flexibility.
The tool comes with support for both user and owner passwords, which means that documents can be secured so that other people don't have access to their content, or so as to prevent editing, printing, or the copying of their content.
Setting up owner passwords on PDF documents means that they cannot be edited or printed, and that their content can not be copied. However, all these limitations are removed when the password is provided. The user password, on the other hand, ensures that the document can not be opened.
The utility also features support for changing specific permissions to an already encrypted PDF file, and can also be used to batch-process a large number of documents. To add such permissions to a document, however, it needs to be unencrypted.
With the help of this application, users can also change the title of a document, or can add a subject to it. They can also add or modify keywords.
The software does not need Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to be installed in order to encrypt files, yet it offers support for PDF1.6 protocol and also delivers fast encryption capabilities.
